Programming
Today, an art gallery serves as more than a place for the ongoing care of a significant art collection and the presentation of exhibitions, it is also a social forum where dialogue, debate, innovation and the building of community can occur. Art plays an essential role in building and sustaining a diverse community that is socially and economically healthy.
Plans are underway for an exciting exhibition program that includes bringing exhibitions and art works to the New Art Gallery of Lambton from other major galleries from across the country, something we have not been able to do in our current location.
We are working on collaborative projects with other galleries including a collaborative regional historical artist project with a group of Cananadian Historical Art Practitioners (CHAPS). CHAPS is made up of historical Curators from across southern Ontario including: Carlton University Art Gallery; the Robert McLaughlin Gallery; the AGO; Museum London; The Ottawa Art Gallery; Agnes Etherington Art Gallery; The McMichael Canadian Art Collection; Hamilton Art Gallery; and the Varley Gallery.

Lisa Daniels, Gallery Lambton Curator, meets with CHAPS and Doris Couture-Rigert, Senior Conservator at the National Gallery of Canada (NGC) to discuss the new Art Gallery of Lambton and the requirements of the NGC 'On Tour' program as well as with curators & installation officers at the Ottawa Art Gallery.
A lot goes on behind the scenes at a gallery like the new Art Gallery of Lambton. Meeting category A standards will require more than maintaining stringent environmental standards. It also means we need to ensure we have the required policies and protocols in place from security systems to how we photograph the art work.

Shelly Mallon, Collections Assistant, visited the Canadian Conservation Institute in Ottawa to gather information on the required level of standards needed to receive Category A standards.
Enhanced programming:
Gallery Lambton is very excited about the enhanced programming that is in the works.
RAAW program
We are working on developing many of our existing programs, including the Random Acts of Art Workshops (RAAW Studios) for youth. RAAW is a free art program for 14 - 18 year olds. Over the past two years, this program has been evolving to the point where many of the sessions are oversubscribed. Gallery Lambton is working with participants to engage responsibly with their community through art!
RAAW IS COMING! (and it's FREE!) Every Tuesday - Thursday for July and August Registration is free, but required. Only 15 spaces per week!
Keep an ear to the street and be ready for this summer's full RAAW schedule! We have loads of great things on the way, including everything from painting, to GPS mapping, to light, sound and movement! There's something for everybody this year, so make sure you stop by Gallery Lambton and see what's up.
Our summer season starts July 5, 6, 7 with the RAAW version of Painting Without Looking with Russell Bonin. Russ is a very exciting, knowledgeable artist that demystifies the process of painting. Adjunct Aboriginal Curator Residency:
An opportunity for a Sarnia native (who is a practicing artist and curator at the national level) to work with us on developing a curatorial program that reflects the wealth of contemporary Aboriginal art practices in Canada and the contemporary Aboriginal voice in Lambton County is in the works.
Curatorial Internships & Artist Residencies:
Lambton County has no post secondary opportunities for residents who want to pursue a career in the visual arts. Aiming to help fill that gap, we are developing a program that will bring emerging and professional practicing artists into the community for extended periods to work with local artists and the community. Additionally, we are working with universities that offer curatorial programs to bring young curators into the community to conduct research on our permanent collection.
There are many exciting programs and exhibition projects in the works that will be communicated here as they develop. Programs include Art & Ideas, Art Film screenings, lecture series, mini talks and tours, One Night Stands, docent and other volunteer programs etc.
